Elasticsearch refresh vs commit
In Elasticsearch, why can a document be gettable by ID but not appear in search results right after indexing?
Options
- 1The index is corrupt and must be fully rebuilt before any document can be served by that particular node at all
- 2Search visibility requires a refresh (new segment made searchable), while real-time GET reads the translog; refresh is periodic by default
- 3Documents are buffered for a full day and only become searchable after the next scheduled daily merge cycle finally runs
- 4Only the primary shard is allowed to serve reads, so the replicas never observe the newly indexed document at all
